The Art and Zen of the Jacuzzi

When good technology fights the bad.

The jacuzzi is one of the last undisturbed oases from digitized society.

You can’t bring anything with you.

Your phone can get wet. A book gets splattered from the jets, and if you try to watch an outdoor tv from a distance, the sound of the tub is too loud.

The hot tub is one of the best innovations, and it is also a deterrent from technology.

Between notifications, emails, and media, it’s impossible to escape technology. Even the most remote parts of the world are getting wifi each day. We can build the discipline to avoid these things, but it’s impossible to step away. Family, friends, and work demand you use it.

But in the jacuzzi, you have no choice. The water is messy and loud, and the jets hitting your back muscles force your body to stop fighting.

I recall many vital roles the jacuzzi has played in my life. Growing up in South Florida, where everyone has a pool or access to one, I thoroughly used my jacuzzi.

The jacuzzi is where I would have a conversation with my dad about important events in my life. It’s where I could relax and take a break. Nothing could distract me from important moments.
